Shakti Samanta's poignant romantic drama Barsaat Ki Ek Raat (AKA A Night of Rain, 1981), commences with the first magical encounters of two young lovers in the Indian Himalayas, Abhijeet (Amitabh Bachchan) and the blind Rajni (Rakhee), whose relationship turns a dark corner when a psychopathic predator, Kaliram (Amjad Khan) crops up and attempts to sexually assault Rajni. Abhijeet saves her - just barely - and has Kaliram incarcerated for many years, but not long after Abhijeet and Rajni marry, Abhijeet comes home from work and is horrified to discover that Rajni has been attacked once again. Riddled with fury, he vows an oath to track down the culprit and unleash a torrent of vengeance for the violations thrust upon his young wife.
